If you ask us, eating is the best part of travel. But all those meals can add up quick. There’s no such thing as a free lunch, but here are our tips to get your morning meal on the house.
The Most Important (Free) Meal of the Day
Breakfast is a great way to get a good solid base of nutrition to begin a packed day of travel. It’s also one of the easiest meals to find offered free of charge. Many hotels offer a free breakfast included with your stay, so it’s always worth asking. But for the frequent traveler, earning elite status with your preferred hotel’s loyalty program can mean a free meal and an ego boost every time you get those special perks unavailable to other lowly hotel guests.
Hilton Honors Gold and Diamond members are eligible for a complimentary continental breakfast at Hilton, DoubleTree and Conrad hotels, or a hot made-to-order breakfast at any Hilton Garden Inn. Achieve Gold status by booking 20 stays, staying 40 nights or earning 75,000 Hilton Honors base points in a year. Diamond status can be unlocked by booking 30 stays, staying 60 nights or earning 120,000 Hilton Honors base points in a year. To cut right to the chase, you can earn Gold status automatically with a Hilton Honors American Express Ascend Card, and Diamond status comes automatically with a Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card.
The two highest levels of the World of Hyatt loyalty program offer free breakfast options. Explorist members (30 nights or 50,000 base points) receive four Club passes, which includes continental breakfast as well as evening hors d’oeuvres. The highest level, Globalist members (60 nights or 100,000 base points) have unlimited Club access or full buffet in the restaurant at Hyatt properties without a lounge area.
Marriott Rewards Gold and Platinum Elite members can get a free continental breakfast for two in the concierge lounge at JW Marriott, Autograph Collection, Renaissance, Marriott and Delta Hotels. If the hotel doesn’t have a lounge or the lounge is closed, the hotel restaurant will provide a free continental breakfast for two. Earn Gold status by staying 25 nights and Platinum Elite status by staying 50 nights.
